Project Overview
A collaborative masterpiece
The Brackens build featured a unique challenge that took the combined efforts of First Step Designs, the architect, and skilled plasterers to overcome. This beautiful, full window-spanning cut string oak staircase features white stringers and risers paired with stone-grey-stained oak treads. Black steel spindles and a black-stained helical oval handrail serve as its balustrades.

FEATURE
Continuous feature balustrade
Building bridges
The Brackens build presented a unique challenge: the staircase had to bridge across a wide window of approximately 4m without the aid of a support wall or struts, allowing enough headspace on either side for easy access through the glass doors leading to the garden.

The Challenge
Teamwork makes the dream work!
We worked closely with the architect to design and fabricate a hidden substructure to span the gap without compromising on stability or footprint. We designed We secured a steel substructure that could be secured into the structura wallinto the foundation before seamlessly overlapping the stairs onto it and the landing. We worked with a skilled plasterer to make an attractive feature of where the stairs and the landing meet.
The team at First Step Designs couldn’t be happier with the result, and we look forward to the next big challenge.
