Project Overview
Mardon House
The Shakespeare family embarked on building their custom dream home near Chesterfield, complete with a grand hallway spanning over five meters in width. This expansive space called for a feature staircase that wouldn’t obstruct or overwhelm, but instead enhance the openness. Our team rose to the challenge, designing a breathtaking, extra-wide floating staircase that stands as the home’s centerpiece, delivering both style and function without compromising on space.

Transforming a Grand Hallway with an Extra-Wide Cantilever Staircase
Our team joined the project at a later stage when the contractor and engineer on-site raised concerns about the load requirements for the existing wall. Taking full ownership of the solution, we designed a custom steel box section to serve as the primary structural support, eliminating the need to rely on the wall. Through the innovative use of Hollo-Bolts and precise on-site welding, we successfully achieved a striking 1200mm cantilever, ensuring both stability and aesthetic appeal.

The Challenge
Innovative Design Solutions: A Striking Feature Wall Conceals Structural Engineering
With the custom steel structure securely in place, the client collaborated with a skilled tiling specialist who expertly cut large 1000mm tiles to encase the steel, concealing all structural elements while achieving a striking contrast. The staircase was then completed with a bespoke walnut stain and frameless glass balustrades, resulting in our widest cantilever staircase to date. The result is a stunning focal point that elevates this hallway to something truly extraordinary—a project we are proud to have brought to life!
